Midwest Multicultural Dementia Carer's Support Program
What is the Midwest Multicultural Dementia Carer's Support Program?
This program offers culturally appropriate respite for carers of people with dementia who come from a Chinese, Arabic or other culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Bi lingual support and coordination staff are available to assist carers to access the program. The programs cover the local Government Areas of:
- Parramatta
- Holroyd
- Ryde
- Hunters Hill
Who is Eligible?
To access these services people must come from a Chinese, Arabic or other culturally and linguistically diverse background. In addition to this clients must also have a written diagnosis of dementia.
People who are able to access the service can also usually say yes to the following statements:
- Do I care for a relative, family member or friend with dementia?
- Do I sometimes need a break from my situation to catch up with my family?
- Do I require further information and resources about dementia to help me understand my own situation?
- Would I benefit from regular contact with a worker who understands my situation and is able to offer support and contact?
What services do we provide?
The programs provide the following:
- Providing respite and time out for carers
- Information and links to a wide range of available dementia care services in your area
- Regular contact and liaison including monitoring and prompting
- Organising social and recreational activities
- Assistance with daily living tasks including light housework, shopping and meal preparation
Who can Refer?
Anyone can make a referral including the Aged Care and Assessment Team, GP or other Health Professionals, Community Services, Friends, family or even self referral.
Are there any fees?
An annual fee based on your ability to pay will be negotiated. However if you are unable to make any contribution, this will not prevent you from receiving a service.
